RAFT Polymerization

What is RAFT polymerization?

Reversible addition–fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization is a type of radical chain polymerization   in  which  polymerization is mediated  via a reversible chain-transfer process using thiocarbonylthio compounds. These compounds are known as RAFT agents. RAFT polymerization possesses the characteristics usually associated with living polymerization. All chains begin growth at the commencement of polymerization and continue to grow until the monomer is consumed. Molecular weights increase linearly with conversion.

Materials

Monomers like Styrene, Methyl Methacrylate & Butyl Acrylate

Applications

Polymers of narrow molecular weight distribution and high functionality can be prepared . Blocks, stars, and complex molecular architectures are accessible by RAFT polymerization .Nanoencapsulation and Carbon Nano tubes functionlization can be done via RAFT polymerization. RAFT polymerization is compatible with wide variety of monomers.
